BeeCloud Gives 512Gb of Free Backup Just Like Backify

If you are one of those who had been a victim of the Backify-Livedrive dispute you might be wondering if there are other sites that offer huge amount of free backup solutions for your files.Well, there is and they also give 512Gb free back up and storage in the cloud just like Backify.
Livedrive

BeeCloud is a computer service based in Belgium, launched in August and is also a reseller of Livedrive. They say their mission is to provide computer users with simple, high-quality backup. The offer of free 512Gb is not a limited trial period but a full feature backup solution.

It is to be recalled that the rift between Backify and Livedrive became known when the latter sent emails to Backify costumers informing them that Backify is no longer their reseller and that any services provided by the company and powered by Livedrive have been terminated.

After a day or two Backify also sent emails to their  own costumers saying that they had asked Livedrive to closed their reseller account because of dissatisfaction on their services and that at no point they also asked for the closure of their costumers as well.

But all of that is already water under the bridge and the people who were affected should look for an alternative or substitute for Backify. This is where BeeCloud comes in.

The company in which BeeCloud resells for is a popular cloud storage service provider and they are seem to be proud of it.

BeeCloud uses all of Livedrive's software and their web interface for upload/downloading files, this means that as a BeeCloud user you get any and all security features of LiveDrive. They also claim to use encryption and SSL connections when transferring data.

The free account is only for personal use and does not allow for sharing files. You can create only 1 free account per email address and 1 per IP address.

A few days ago I registered for the BeeCloud's  free account to avail of the massive 512 Gb backup solution and give the service a test to see if they really mean what they say.

If you want to also make it a try you can go to BeeCloud's registration page: BeeCloud registration page

The Ugly New Facebook Chat Box

It seems the Facebook people are running out of innovative ideas or they are overdoing themselves, thinking that by changing the chat interface would be cool to users. I don't want to judge them so quickly but I can't help it when one of the features in Facebook which I often used suddenly becomes suck.

In the old Facebook chat box you could see all the friends who are online but in the new chat box even those who offline are appearing in the side bar. The problem is you no longer see all the 'friends' who are online. What you now see are the list of names of those whom you have "messaged recently or most number of times conversed with", whether they are online or not, according to Facebook sources.

The new chat interface was activated last July. So, probably by now there are already thousands of Facebook users ranting; calling for the return to the old chat box. Some are even saying the move was stupid and that Facebook will be going the way of My Space if they don't wise up
.
But fret no more chat lovers! I have searched and found how you can disable the new Facebook chat box and bring back the old good chat box. All you have to do is to download and install the extension for disabling the ugly new Facebook chat.

Snaptu: One Download Many Free Apps

Formerly known as Mobica, Snaptu is a free mobile application from an Israeli start up that can run on almost all types of Web enabled phones. It bundles all your favorite apps like Facebook, Twitter and Google Search among others in one single app. No matter what phone you have, with Snaptu you can enjoy ultra fast browsing, so you can save time; simple and easy to use.

The amazing array of functionality of Snaptu goes further by also allowing the users to add virtually any RSS feeds of any blogs and news sites be it Mashable, Technorati, CNN or BBC. You just type the URL of RSS feed then click the add button.

By January 2011 the application has already 27 million users around the world and still rising. On my own account it bundles more than 30 individual apps at present with some more room to spare.

The product's popularity can be attributed to the fact that it can run on almost any model of phones provided they can access the Internet. Snaptu runs on Java platform, so because of this content providers and application developers can able to write a one time application on Snaptu and then run it on the mobile web. So Snaptu does not run on the mobile phone but on the internet servers.

In March 2011 the company was acquired by Facebook for an estimated 60-70 million dollars. This only goes to show the growing importance of Snaptu on the social network industry. Facebook hopes to further expand its social network influence globally by putting its app on the most rudimentary phones on the market.

Facebook, Google Getting Ready For The Second Internet

On June 8 several major web companies including Microsoft, Google, Facebook and Yahoo will participate in World IPv6 Day. The event sponsored by the Internet Society will test flight IPv6, an upgrade to IPv4 which is becoming to be overloaded. The purpose of the 24 hour test is to motivate other companies using the Internet to transition and adapt their services and products to the IPv6.

IPv6 stands for Internet Protocol version 6, an increment to IPv4 which is the current public communication protocol being used globally but IPv4 is now running out of address space due to the ever expanding Internet. It can be installed just like any software in order to connect to the Internet and can also work with IPv4 without any special tools or manipulations.

Lynn St. Amour, president and CEO of Internet Society stated on IPv6 Forum.com," The Internet is for everyone. IPv6 represents the next stage of the Internet's evolution".

John Chambers, chairman of the board and CEO of Cisco Systems, Inc outlines Cisco's commitment to IPv6 by listing its benefits which include:

- Simplified packet header for routing efficiency.

-Mandatory IP Security (IPSec) implementation for all IPv6 devices. -Improved support for mobile IP and mobile computing devices.

-Enhanced multicast support with increased addresses and efficient mechanisms.

There are only 6% remaining of the domain name bandwidth for web addresses (IPv4 addresses) and they are expected to be exhausted by March 2012. The advent of the second Internet, IPv6, will be the remedy because there will be no more running out of web addresses.

According to Wikipedia the current first internet (IPv4) could allocate 4,294,967,296 addresses while IPv6 can support 340 undecillion addresses. Imagine that!

Intrusion Prevention System Help Avert Lockheed Attack

The recent "significant and tenacious" cyber attack on Lockheed Martin's information system could not have been averted without an intrusion prevention system installed on their network.

Lockheed Martin is a big player in the global arms supply and the no. 1 defense contractor for the United States. Any breach on the company's network could heavily compromise their customers, program or their employee's personal information. But most of all, if the intrusion was successful it would have been a big problem for America as vital secrets on next generation as well as current weapons technology will be exposed.

A spokesman for Lockheed did not mention anything about IPS on their system but reported that "we have policies and procedures in place to mitigate the cyber threats to our business, and we remain confident in the integrity of our robust, multi-layered information systems security".

An intrusion prevention system is more than a firewall or antivirus software. IPS is both a hardware and software system that works inline along the network of a security infrastructure of a company. It has the capability to detect attacks coming from known and unknown sources, block the attack and make an alert.

The attack against Lockheed’s information system is believed to have originated at RSA, a division of technology giant EMC, when their SecurID tokens used by Lockheed employees for remotely accessing their data have been breached. Hackers could have made duplicates of the token keys out of the stolen data from RSA.

Most experts say it is virtually impossible for any company even with an up to date security solution to totally stop cyber espionage. But having an intrusion prevention system in place, an individual or company can rely on protection for their sensitive information which is far more effective than firewalls and antivirus combined.

6 Ways To keep Your Kids safe On The Web

null

Your kid's security on the Web must be of utmost priority. They are the most vulnerable when it comes to cyber bullying, scams, sexual offenders and other forms of abuse on the Internet. Parents should monitor, manage and administer their children's use of the computer to make sure they stay away from websites that wittingly or unwitting could pose some risks. Without proper guidelines children could easily fall victim to on line predators.

Here are 6 tips that would help protect your child from the dangers of the virtual world and ensure their safe and rewarding experience online:

1.) The first thing parents should do for their kid's online security is to position the computer in a place where they can see what their kids are doing over the Internet from time to time. They should also set a time limit for the use of the computer notably when playing online games.

2.) Learn the sites where your children most often go. See to it that the sites do not contain sexually explicit content or violent graphics and images inappropriate for their age. Check out also whether they are indulging in activities online with strangers who are out only to exploit your kids.

3.) Teach them the proper and responsible way of using Facebook and other social networks. Some sites have features that give users control of their profile and how or to whom they can share photos and other personal information. Urge your kids to utilize these controls.

4.) You can report to Google if your kid encounters abuse or inappropriate content on one of their products. In You Tube, you can click on the "Flag" link below a video which you think violates Google's Community Guidelines and they will review it for removal.

5.) When doing some school projects on the Web, your children should learn to distinguish between the real and not real. Not all you see, hear, or read on the Internet can be true. Educate your child to verify the information they find.

6.) Purchase parental-control software to keep your kids away from websites which they are not suppose to access. You can program the software in a way that restricts the children from "adult" sites but not necessarily block your own use of Internet.
